Most contractors do one of these things. MBP Painting & Drywall does the sequence: the wall gets opened, boarded, taped, sanded, primed and painted by the same people, in one schedule. That matters more than it sounds like it should. A patch floated by whoever is going to paint it gets feathered further out, because they are the one who will see it in the topcoat. And a repair that is painted the same week does not sit half-finished in your hallway waiting on a second trade to have an opening.
What that looks like on a real job
- A ceiling stain turns out to be a failed supply line, so the drywall gets cut back and replaced — not painted over.
- The new board is taped, coated and sanded by the same crew, with the texture matched to the rest of the ceiling.
- Primer goes over the repair, then the ceiling is painted corner to corner so there is no pale rectangle left behind.
