Drywall Repair in Westmont, IL

Holes, cracks, ceilings and water damage — matched, primed, painted.

A drywall repair is judged entirely on whether you can find it afterward. Anyone can fill a hole; the work that makes it disappear is in the taping, the feathering of the coats out past the patch, the sanding, and matching whatever texture is on the rest of the wall before primer and paint go over the top. We do all four steps as one job, which is the reason our patches blend instead of showing up as a shadow every time the afternoon light rakes across the wall.

We repair holes, cracks, nail pops, corner damage, failed seams, popped tape and water-damaged ceilings for homeowners, landlords, property managers and realtors across Westmont, Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Lombard, Darien and the surrounding towns. Jobs range from one doorknob-sized hole to a whole condo's worth of patch-and-paint before a tenant moves in or a house goes on the market.

Local Detail

Older walls, newer walls, and water

Housing stock around here splits roughly in two. In Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Western Springs, La Grange and the older parts of Westmont, a lot of walls are plaster over lath, and plaster fails differently from drywall — it cracks on a line, it comes loose from the lath in sheets, and a repair that gets screwed back tight and skimmed will outlast one that is simply filled. In the 1960s-through-1990s subdivisions of Lisle, Woodridge, Darien and Lombard it is drywall, and what we mostly see is seam and fastener movement after decades of seasonal expansion.

The other constant is water. Basements are standard in DuPage, and so are ice dams, supply-line leaks and overflowing second-floor bathrooms. Water-damaged drywall needs cutting back to sound material and letting dry before anything is closed up — patching over a damp cavity traps the problem and stains straight back through the new paint. If you have a fresh stain on a ceiling, photograph it and call us before it is dry.

Our Process

How a repair runs

  1. Look at it, price it

Send a photo or we come out. Either way you get a written number before anything is cut, and an honest read on whether it is a patch or a section that needs replacing.

  2. Cut back and board

Damage cut back to sound material and solid framing, new board set in and fastened flush — the step that keeps the repair from moving later.

  3. Tape, coat, sand

Taped, then coated and feathered well out past the patch, sanded flat between coats. Compound needs real drying time between coats and we give it that rather than rushing it.

  4. Texture, prime, paint

Surrounding texture matched, primer over the repair, then paint. Where we cannot get an exact color match we will tell you up front that the honest answer is painting to the nearest corner.

FAQ

Drywall Repair questions

Straight answers, including the ones where the honest answer is 'it depends'.
How long does a drywall repair take?
It depends on the size of the repair and the drying time between coats, which is the part nobody can shorten — joint compound dries on its own schedule, and humidity changes it. A small patch and a water-damaged ceiling are genuinely different jobs. You will get a timeline in writing with your estimate rather than a guess over the phone.
Can you match my existing wall texture?
Usually, yes — smooth, orange peel, knockdown and skip trowel are all matchable, and matching the texture is part of the repair, not an add-on. Hand-applied textures on older ceilings are the hardest to copy exactly; send a close-up photo and we will tell you honestly what we can get to.
There's a water stain on my ceiling. What should I do first?
Find and stop the water before anyone repairs the drywall — a patch over an active leak will stain through again. Once it is dry, photograph the stain and the area around it and send it to us; we can usually tell from a photo whether it needs a cut-out or will seal and paint.
Do you repair plaster as well as drywall?
Plaster walls are common in the older homes around Hinsdale, Western Springs, La Grange and Downers Grove, and they are a regular part of the repair work we quote. Tell us what you have when you call so we bring the right materials.
Can you paint the repair as well, so it matches?
Yes, and that is the point of having one crew. A patch that is left for a painter to find a week later almost never blends as well as one that is primed and painted by the people who floated it.
